WHOSE PUPPET ARE YOU?
By
Mary Jane Sears
We have all heard the story of Pinocchio the puppet. He was carved out of wood taken from a tree by a carpenter who desired to have a son. Scripturally speaking, wood typifies humanity and we are often referred to as trees. The Psalms say the trees of the fields shall clap their hands.
The carpenter created the puppet to look like his own human form. At first it was just a thought form and slowly, but surely, the thought form that was in the mind of Gepetto began to take shape. The head, arms and legs were assembled and attached to a torso. The puppet was given eyes, a nose, a mouth and ears. The puppet depended upon Gepetto for its every movement via the strings that were attached to him. Gepetto enjoyed the puppet, but he still desired a son that he could share his life with. Under the tender care of Gepetto, the puppet named Pinocchio, began to not only have existence, but he became conscious of the world around him.
Before long, the puppet did not want to obey his creator and broke the strings that kept him tied to the man who had come to be like a father to him. In rebellion Pinocchio left his father's house and went out into the world and experienced what the prodical son in the parables went through. He continually lied and refused to believe the warnings that Gepetto had given him. Before long Pinocchio was in all sorts of trouble and met up with some unsavory characters who desired to do him harm. He didn't feel safe and found the world he entered didn't make him happy.
Finally Pinocchio remembered the kindness that Gepetto had always shown him and he realized how much he missed him and returned home. As the story goes, in the course of time, Pinocchio was changed from a wooden puppet into a real life son because of the constant love of his father. We know the very nature of our heavenly Father is love.
Spiritual Principles
This story sums up our human condition here in this world. Jehovah, our heavenly Father, desired a son in His image and began the process of creating one. Before being completed, the creation, called Adam, was seduced by lies and fell down into this world that God calls hell. Here we have existence and consciousness, but God does not call it life. We are off the true path and time line of our heavenly Father. Some of us are now in the process of being reconciled back to our heavenly Father through the sacrifice of Jesus our Redeemer. Our hope is that we will truly come alive via the mind of Christ being formed and matured in us, so that we will truly be in the image of our loving Father and be pleasing to Him.
